rýrr ý r is a Berlin-based instrumental post-metalband, deriving its name from the Icelandicword for barren or sparse. This contrast betweenscarcity and depth is central to their sound —powerful, bass-heavy, yet ethereal. Their musicconjures vast, rugged landscapes where desola-tion and hope intertwine.Instrumental post-rock and post-metal/doomoften lean toward either immersive atmospheresor sheer heaviness, resulting in predictability.Seeking to disrupt this pattern, Marius Jungfounded rýr in 2018 with the goal of blendingheavy rhythms and dynamic riffs withoutsacrificing atmosphere. Since then, the band hasevolved significantly, playing over 70 live showsacross Germany and Europe, and releasing twofull-length albums, both of which were well-received within the scene. The band is currentlya three-piece, featuring Eric Knoop on drumsand Florian Fricke on bass.The band’s logo, featuring a root, symbolizesresilience and growth amid adversity—a themeechoed in their compositions. Layers of at-mospheric textures collide with weighty riffs,forging soundscapes that shift between crushingintensity and dreamlike expanses. Tracks suchas Trajectory from their second album exempli-fies this balance, merging forceful rhythms withhaunting melodies.
